How does internet radio differ from on-demand music streaming?

Internet radio plays a programmed, shared stream that every listener hears at the same time; on-demand streaming lets each listener pick tracks, usually guided by recommendation algorithms.

On a radio station, programming decides what plays next. That gives new and independent artists exposure to listeners who did not search for them by name.

On-demand services are built around individual choice and recommendation systems, which tend to favour music that is already popular.

OPS Radio combines the two: 18 programmed stations, charts driven by listening and buying rather than paid placement, and a marketplace where listeners can keep the singles they discover.
